No babies till after college

As Mckenna was getting out of the car this morning at daycare she looks up at me and says, "Daddy, when Nathan and I have a baby..." (Nathan is Mckenna's daycare friend) Having startled me a little - OK, a lot - my "Uber-Daddy" senses spring into action!

"Super Uber-Daddy"- the apex of heroism, the fixer of boo-boo's, with all the prerequisites of strength, brains and scratchy five O'clock shadow face- puts his protective reflexes to work and quickly interrupts her, "Whoa! No babies till after college." Yes, I'm a Super Hero of few words...

Not giving it a second thought she responds, "Yeah or maybe after homework."

I wonder if boys, at this age, have the slightest clue what they are in for.

Steal-ers like music more than kids

Mckenna and I were on our way to Sunshine, her before school daycare, this morning after dropping Devyn off at school and I hear her rustling through her backpack in the back seat.

"Daddy, I found my iPod," she tells me as she is pulling it from the bowels of her backpack. If Mckenna's room was a creature her backpack would be it's stomach. You can't even begin to imagine the things that end up in her backpack for digestion. She doesn't have an iPod but here is proof positive that marketing and advertising works- every music player to a 6 year old is an iPod.

"Good Honey, I'm glad you found it," I reply unaware that she had lost it in the first place but curious none the less.

"I left it at Sunshine," she says. "I better leave it in your car so I don't lose it again," she adds.

"That's fine Honey, you can leave it in here," I tell her.

She quickly changes her mind and says, "No I better not leave it in the car it might get stealed. Stealers broke into Mommy's car and took her briefcase," Her Mother's car was broken into earlier this week and apparently left quite an impression on Mckenna.

Mckenna continues... "They would steal it if I left it in the car because stealers like music. At this point I'm thinking... Cool, I just learned something new. "Stealers like music more than kids because they like to listen to music while they are stealing," she informs me.

"OK Sweetheart," I tell her, "You tuck it into your backpack when you are done. OK?"

"OK Daddy, I'm going to listen to my music now."

Close your eyes- we'll get there quicker!

When Tiya and Devyn were toddlers they used to associate the freeway with being in the car for a long time. As soon they would see that we were getting on the freeway they would ask if we could take the regular roads because the "freeways take too long." I always told them that if they close their eyes and go to sleep we will get there quicker. I tell Mckenna the same thing.

On Sunday, driving back from my Dads, I hear Mckenna from the back seat saying, "Devyn close your eyes." Devyn is sitting in the front passenger seat next to me oblivious to everything because he was listening to his ipod. I'm wondering to myself why Mckenna is asking Devyn to close his eyes.

A moment later I hear Mckenna ask Tiya, "If Devyn closes his eyes will we get home faster?"

Apparently Mckenna wanted to get home quicker but wasn't tired enough to close her own eyes and go to sleep. Tiya and I were laughing so hard.

Mckenna Gets her Ears Pierced

Mckenna was so anxious to get her ears pierced. Nervous but anxious! Sunday her Mom took her to get them done and she sat through it like a little trooper. I went by her daycare Monday morning on the way to my dentist appointment so that she could share her experience with me. With a great big smile she proudly pulled her hair back and showed me her new pink studs.

They were lovely.

I Just love my Muscles!

This morning, like most mornings that I have the kids, I was hurrying to drop the kids off at school because we are usually running late. I can't seem to get the schedule worked out so that we aren't. It might have something to do with trying to get up earlier- just a thought.

I had just dropped Devyn off at school and was heading toward Tiya's school when from the back seat Tiya and I hear Mckenna say, "Man these are big! I just love my muscles!" Tiya and I just look at each other and start laughing. Mckenna had been flexing her biceps the night before and was showing me her strong muscles.

That's for the Weiner

Sunday afternoon I dropped Devyn off at his mother's- Tiya had gone to her house the night before. Mckenna and I went back to my house and got something to eat. I didn't have to drop Mckenna off till 7:00 p.m.

Mckenna says, "Daddy, I don't want to go to Mommy's. I want to stay with you another night. Can I stay with you Daddy, please?" (puppy dog eyes and everything)

"Honey," I told her. "You have school tomorrow." Not that it mattered really because I have them during the week normally anyway but I was kind of anticipating a quiet, relaxing evening of winding down. Winding down usually follows the weeks that I have the kids 5 straight days. LOL

"Daddy, can I call Mommy and ask her if I can stay?"

I really don't do well under the pressure of puppy dog eyes. "Yes Honey, call your Mommy."

So Mckenna spends the rest of the evening being my little shadow, following me around the house and lending me a hand cleaning up a little from the weekend. I needed to start a load of laundry so Mckenna is handing me my clothes to put in the washer. She picks up a pair of boxers and after handing them to me explains her understanding of boxers.

"Boy's wear boxers but, my Mommy wears them too." she says. (I'm assuming for bed, although I can't be sure.)

"Is that right?" I reply.

"Yes and Jordan wears them too." she adds.

Using both of her hands, she forms them into a big circle in front of her and says, "they're funny- they have a big hole in the front."

Not quite sure where we are going with this I say, "yes, they do."

"That's for the weiner." she says very matter-of-fact.

"Uh... yeah honey. Yes it is."

We finished putting the laundry in, put "Herbie" on and laid down on the couch. She asked if she could lay on my arm "because she says she loves laying on my arm." So I tucked my arm under her head, she cuddled up next to me and lasted about 20 minutes before falling asleep. I finished watching "Herbie" by myself. :)

Happy Birthday Mckenna!!

Mckenna turned a big 6 years old on Friday. We all got up and had breakfast with Mckenna for her birthday. We had scrambled eggs (and ketchup for Mckenna) and toast with apple butter.

I took Mckenna, Tiya, Devyn and Ceidre to a local restaurant for Mckenna's Birthday dinner. It was a buffet style - all you can eat - restaurant. The kids like it because they can eat all the shrimp, crab legs and sushi they can fit into their stomachs. Our waitress even brought a little dessert plate for our birthday girl and we all sang happy birthday to her.

After dinner we went back to the house and had cake and ice cream (because you can't have enough sweets on your birthday) and Mckenna opened up her gifts. I think she had a pretty good birthday.

On Saturday we continued the celebration. My Dad came out and we all went to the bowling alley. We ordered pizza, beer and soda and got through a game and a half in two hours. We all had a great time. Devyn and Mckenna entertained us all with their dancing while we bowled.
